String Teacher

Sam Sharp

Sam Sharp (he/him) is a music teacher, violinist, composer, arranger, and very mediocre juggler. A full-time teacher since 2010, Sam uses his Suzuki training, somatic therapy work, and varied performance experience to cultivate a sensitive and highly personalized learning environment. His vision as a teacher is to guide each student in a way that allows them to find their own creatively fulfilling path with music. He loves working with students of all ages and abilities, and emphasizes listening, playing by ear, and body awareness as the keys to developing a comfortable and fulfilling connection with our inner music and the ability to manifest it externally.

Sam‘s performing activities currently involve engagements with a number of local orchestras, as well as various chamber music concerts. His composition and arrangement work has taken shape recently in the form of a 45-minute piano trio in collaboration with Cacie Miller’s Composing the Climate project as well the release of an album of his arrangements of the Beatles album Abbey Road for string quartet. He’s at home in a variety of genres and his eclectic experience, from digital music production, performing with rock bands, and transcribing field recordings of indigenous folk music, to composing film scores and completing a yoga teacher training course, has given him a breadth of knowledge and an openness he brings to bear in every lesson. He holds violin performance degrees from Oberlin Conservatory and Indiana University. More information can be found on his website: samsharpmusic.com.
