Robert Golub
Robert Golub is a Professor of Medicine and Preventive Medicine at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. His specialty is General Internal Medicine, and he has dedicated his career to medical education, medical decision making and decision analysis, improving the quality of reporting medical research, and medical publishing. He received his BA from Princeton University and MD from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, and completed his internship and residency at Northwestern.
After 20 years of providing direct primary care at Northwestern, Rob’s focus changed to scientific publishing. Most recently, he served as Executive Deputy Editor at JAMA (the Journal of the American Medical Association), where he was a member of the senior editorial staff from 2004-2022. His primary responsibilities included responsibility for the JAMA scientific research content and peer review, and in the fall of 2021 he became supervisor of the digital media department, including audio and video productions.
Throughout his career, he has had a deep interest in education. He served as Chair of the Northwestern medical school curriculum committee, and at JAMA edited the annual Medical Education theme issues.
Coming from a musical family, Rob has enjoyed studying and playing piano since childhood, with his happiest memories including playing in rock bands in college and in medical school (his band was called Arrhythmia), where he also directed musical productions. He continues to play regularly, both solo and with his wife and (close) friends.
He is an avid supporter of musical performing arts and instruction, and appreciates the talented and broad range of Chicago musicians and organizations, from chamber music to symphony to opera. He strongly believes in the vital importance of music outreach and education.
