Music in Movies: 2001 A Space Odyssey

We launch our Music in Movies series with a cosmic classic in honor of National Space Week: Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey.
Famous for its visionary visuals and meditative exploration of science, philosophy, and space, 2001 is equally celebrated for its bold and unforgettable score.
Rather than commissioning an original soundtrack, Kubrick paired the film’s images with existing orchestral works by Richard Strauss, György Ligeti, Aram Khachaturian, and others—creating a powerful and unconventional sonic experience that changed the way music is used in film.
Join us for a screening of this masterpiece in immersive 5.1 surround sound and experience its music the way it was meant to be heard: vast, mysterious, and transcendent.
